[56] demonstrated a persistent reduction in normalized relative glucose metabolism in the right anterior cingulate cortex and right medial frontal cortex that persisted after recovery sleep and antidepressant treatment (paroxetine, a serotonin reuptake inhibitor) in six elderly depressed patients when used in combination with sleep deprivation.
